Portable Gas Generator Question...?
Ok, my husband and I live in Oklahoma where it is always assured that you will be in HORRIBLE weather. So, I'm thinking about getting a portable gas generator for our house. When I go online to look at them, there are all sorts of things. Which one would you suggest to be able to live by (4000 watt, 1500 watt, etc.)? Do any of you have a used one for sale or know a place online to find a new one cheap? Also, I've heard of "tripping" the generator...what happens when you trip a generator? I know it's because of using too many watts but what exactly happens to the machine and is it restartable? Trust me, I would not get one if we did not live in this bad weather magnet hell hole, but we do...and I need to educate myself as much as possible on this stuff. Tell me everything you know as far as maintenance, costs involved, or other options for portable electricity when bad ice storms hit. I'm open to all ideas. No haters please. Just educating myself and doing the research. Thx!
Firstly,Most are rated by watts. A 1000 watt blow dryer draws about 10 amps. If you bought a 6000 watt generator,it would only power 50% of your house on average. Actually, sit down and figure out what you intend to power during an outage,and email it to me,and I can give you better advice.
