Will a 4500 watt (5000 watt peak) generator power my 1/2 HP well pump?
I have had it with melting snow/buying water to flush our toilets during multi-day power outages. In fact, last winter I came up with a new unit of measurement I call the Flushment.
1 Flushment is the amount of time it takes you to melt enough snow to flush 1 toilet one time using a big pot and a gas grill. The base line for me is 1 hour=1 Flushment.

Background: In Virginia, snowed in, with no power (or working toilets) for 6 days last winter with a wife and 2 daughters.
Before purchasing a generator take some measurements from your well pump. My deep well pump uses only 6.2A or 1488 watts when running. However, startup current is 27.1A or 6504 watts just to get the water started. The 5kW peak generator you mention could have a hard time getting it running. Without knowledge of your specific pump requirements it's difficult to give proper advice. Unfortunately you'd really have to try the MasterGenerator with your pump or ask someone with that model and a well pump to know for certain.
Ive used four generators connected to my home's transfer panel. A DeVilbiss GT5000 rated 5000 watts continuous, 6250 watts surge handled the pump reasonably well, but the engine speed dropped considerably and the lights dimmed when the pump came on. It was replaced with a Generac 5500XL, 5500W continuous 6875W surge. This generator had an even harder time getting the well pump started and the engine would surge several times, and lights flickered badly before the pump was running. Now I use a Briggs & Stratton 5500W / 8550W surge. It has no problem with the well pump. There is a slight flicker when the pump comes on and the engine tone changes. I also have a Generac 7000EXL 7000W / 12250W surge that barely notices the well pump coming on.
Consider are the country of origin for the generator. Where is the engine built? Do you want to be stuck for months waiting for repair of a Chinese built engine? Briggs & Stratton has a very good maintenance network and you can get parts or repair quite easily. Honda engines are very reliable and make very little noise. You'll be paying more for reliability, but in the long term it could be worth the added expense.
You should install a transfer panel for quick and easy generator connection. Never use a double male cord to back feed through a dryer or stove outlet.
