How do they set the resistance during a 2k erg test?
I'm prepping for the 1st 2k using the erg machine I have at home. I was wondering how they actually set the resistance level during a 2k test so I can set it that way on my home machine. Thanks!
Does it differ with lightweight or girls?
I'm a female lightweight, and my machine is from 1 to 8. Should I still do it at 7?
You should ask your coach what Drag Factor he or she wants you to test at. Then make sure that you always set your machine to that same drag factor, whether at home, at the boathouse or at the health club.
If your coach does not specify, I'd recommend that you set your drag at 110, which is pretty standard for lightweight girls. Do not go above 115, which is where most heavyweights test.
I have no idea what your "1 to 8" is. Do not rely solely on the numerical fan settings. The only way to achieve consistency from one machine to the next is to set the Drag Factor.
If you are doing an actual erg race, like a Crash-B qualifier, you are allowed to set the drag factor on the machine that you're using. In fact, you should make a point of ALWAYS checking the drag - do not assume that the person before you raced on the same setting that you use.
