Tablets, do you have one? How often do you use it? Graphic/interior designers, or photographers please!
I'm an Interior Design student, but also a hobby photographer. I'm wondering if I should buy a Wacom tablet. I've used them for a few assignments in the past and love them, but they are so expensive! In the past I've bought them for the night I need it, and return it. I definitely don't like doing that but as a student I sometimes have to. Now I've got a bit of extra cash from my summer job, do you think it's worth it?
Do you find it much much faster than just using your mouse?
And would you recommend a certain one? Right now I'm leaning toward the Intuo3 because I know it has pressure and tilt sensors, and multiple nibs, I've heard this is a good thing. Do these features come in handy? Or should I just get a cheap Bamboo tablet?
If you still intend to do any freehand drawing in your computer, there is no better way than with a digital tablet. That is why pressure sensitivity is such an important feature. For me, the tilt sensor and multiple nibs plays a lesser role, since I am used to how my stylus works in my tablet.
But, for most other graphics functions, such as in vector drawing tools, the stylus offers no advantage over the mouse since all of those movements are nothing more than click and drag.
I do not subscribe to the idea that a bigger tablet is better. After all, we ALL have to zoom in for the detail work. The REAL size critical factor is the size of the MONITOR, not the tablet. No matter what size tablet, it is STILL a one-to-one, tablet to monitor ratio.
I have been using my four by six inch Wacom Pen Partner for over four years and haven't felt any urge to upgrade to a larger one. Last year, I found some VERY inexpensive DigiPro Tablets for my grandkid's computers that have all the functionality of my Wacom. These can be found at the Computer Geeks site ( http://geeks.com ) for well under $50. They are in the "Mouse" section. They are well worth checking out. I tried them out on my system and found they are compatible with my Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash and Dreamweaver applications.
