Why does my sound level meter ask me to remove battery when not in use.?
The instructions booklet for my sound level meter asks me to remove the battery when not in use. I don't understand the need for this. I don't see how the battery drain when the device is switched off. Plus, the battery cover is really difficult to get off.

A further question. I have a 120w subwoofer and wish to know if a spl meter with a 31.5Hz ~ 8KHz wil be able to pick up the bass. I only use 30-60 watts of this subwoofer.
all batteries have internal resistance and as a result, they self discharge.
If you leave the battery in a device that is not used often, the self discharged battery can leak and damage the device.
If you use it once or twice a week, you will know when the batteries need to be replaced, but also remember that the manual told you to remove the batteries when not in use, so the battery company will not repair or replace if the batteries leak and harm the device.
