exhaust leak sound on caterpillar c12 430 engine?
"i have a 2001 peterbilt 387 with a cat c12 430 with around 544,00 miles and it makes a noise mostly at steady speed but sometimes when accellerating that sounds like an exhaust leak! i took it to my local cat dealer and they replaced the turbo and then it had more power and seemed to run better but still had a little bit of the noise! i went out in the truck on a delivery about 500 miles and when i got back it seemed like the noise was back just as loud as before! oh one more thing before i went out i crawled under the truck to check out the exhaust and i noticed one of the clamps that clamps between the pipe and the flex tubing was leaking and couldn't be tightened any more so i took it off and it was a little be worn away inside the clamp so i put some thin tin metal on the inside of the clamp and put it back on and it seemed a little quieter and that was before i drove it the 500 miles! do you think that clamp could be where i'm getting that sound from?";
sounds like the place to start. i would also take my truck back to peterbelt for some warranty work, if you took it in for a sound and it is still there, thay did not do there job.
