Close range coyote hunting, if you had to choose between a 20 gauge slug gun or a semi-auto .22 lr which one?
I am going coyote hunting and camping, and the only two firearms I have is a 20 gauge slug gun and a .22 lr Rifle
If you have the skill to get a coyote called into a range of 30-70 yards... and can raise a long gun and level it on target before it alerts and heads for Dodge City... either will do.
I have shot a few coyotes that got "ambushed" because they were busy chasing a calf or mouse or whatever... and they were upwind... and I just happened to have a rifle while checking cattle.
Most of the time they run in packs... they scent and hear too well... and run off if they suspect trouble.
If you plan to shoot a coyote for sport... bring a flat shooting rifle that can make a 200 yard shot...learn to call... and learn how to be patient.
